30 Days of World Building, Day 6: Races

Day 6: Races-Spend a few minutes figuring out what the people living in the major areas of your world would look like. Then consider what would happen if different groups of people interacted. Would there be tension? Would they get along? Would there be trading? Intermarriage? Fighting?

King’s Shadow:

Aeledge: Primarily light skin, brown hair, dark eyes, New England heritage.

Fayford: Primarily light skin, blonde hair, light eyes, Amish heritage.

Shorebridge: Predominantly dark skin, black hair, dark eyes, African American heritage.

Wellport: Mixture of light and dark skin, black and brown hair, dark eyes, African American and German heritage

Southedge: Olive skin, black and brown hair, dark eyes, predominantly Hispanic and African American heritage

Lochmead: Mixture of olive skin and dark skin, black and brown hair, dark eyes, mixture of Anglo-Saxon, Hispanic, and African American heritage

Texas: Mixture of light and olive skin, brown hair, dark and light eyes, mixture of Anglo-Saxon and Hispanic heritage

Northlynn: Mixture of bronze and light skin, black and brown hair, dark eyes, Native American and Anglo-Saxon heritage

Coldwall: Light skin, light hair, light colored eyes, Anglo-Saxon heritage

Officially, there is political peace in the country. But Texas and Northlynn trade jabs about maintaining the border at the Barren Lands, accusing each other of funneling nomads towards each other’s borders. Coldwall argues with Southedge about trade flowing down what used to be the Mississippi River. Shorebridge and Fayford have worked out a tacit agreement regarding the smugglers who use the Appalachian Mountains as a hideout. Fayford and Aeledge have made an alignment thanks to the betrothal of the Duke’s daughter and the Prince.

Avignon

Northern Territory: Bronze skin, dark eyes, black hair, Native American heritage

Ontario Territory: Light skin, light eyes, light hair, Anglo-Saxon heritage

Texas Territory: Olive skin, dark eyes, black hair, Hispanic heritage

Mississippi Territory: Dark skin, brown eyes, black hair, African American heritage

Florida Territory: Olive skin, green eyes, black/brown hair, Hispanic heritage

Carolina Territory: Primarily dark skin, dark eyes, black hair, African American heritage. Capitol city contains a mix of all races, though light skin is the minority

New Hampshire Territory: Light skin, dark eyes, dark/brown hair, Anglo-Saxon heritage

The Carolina Territory has a love-hate relationship with the influx of migrants from the rest of the country due to the additional workforce in the capitol city as well as the problems related to additional people in the area. The California Territory often argues with the Southwest Territory over the true boundary between them at the Rocky Mountains. Each territory has its own agenda about the rebuilding of the country, and they have taken an isolationist approach when it comes to helping each other.

I never gave much thought to who lived where or how they interacted. But I see how it will give more depth to my worlds. I’m especially liking several ideas about interactions when everyone is together in the capitol cities.
