Sometime at the beginning of the year, I stumbled upon a website called Toot’n Towns USA. It’s a site dedicated to bringing readers and tourists the best “hidden gems” in small towns across the country. Everybody knows what to see and do in big cities, but occasionally you just want to enjoy the little towns that have just as much to offer.
I submitted a short piece about the Roanoke Star that I wrote for my travel writing course back in May, and I hadn’t hear anything since. I figured that the article was rejected because that’s usually what silence means.
Then I got an email from the website administrator. They published my piece. It’s currently on the front page of the website.
I’m pretty excited about this, especially since I was paid for this piece. It’s not much, but it’s money. I can officially say that I’ve been paid for my work.
Here’s the link to the article. Check it out if you have a chance.
